Trinity Baptist Church was established in 1875. During the church's first two years, congregants met at Ridgewood Hall on Broadway in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. In 1877, Trinity's chapel opened, located on Greene Avenue between Patchen Avenue and Broadway in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Willoughby Avenue Baptist Church, once known as the First Baptist Church of Bushwick, was organized in 1854. The church went through several location sites and name changes before it solidified in 1878 on Willoughby Avenue near Broadway in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn. A large group of congregants left the church in 1875 to form the Trinity Baptist Church, and in the late 1880s, the congregation merged with the Greene Avenue Baptist Church.
